Ed Michaels
Saxophonist/Woodwind Instructor

Mr. Michaels holds a B.S. in Music Education from Duquesne University and a M.M. in Performance from Northwestern University, where he studied with Fred. Hemke. Currently, Mr. Michaels teaches instrumental and general music in the Willoughby-Eastlake School district. He is also on the faculty at The Willoughby School of Fine Arts, where he teaches saxophone and jazz improvisation. In addition, Mr. Michaels is director of "Jazz Impact", an honors jazz ensemble of area high school musicians sponsored by Lakeland Community College.

Mr. Michaels reputation as a saxophone artist is growing rapidly throughout Northeast Ohio. He feels a strong commitment to promoting jazz and American Music and you can frequently hear him perform in the Cleveland music scene with some of the area's finest musicians.

  • Established "Jazz Impact", Lakeland Community College's Honors Band - 1990

  • Co-founder of Lakeland Community College's Summer Jazz and Pop Music Camp - 1992

  • Adjudicator at Lakeland Jazz Festival - 1995 & 1996

  • Received Lakeland Jazz Festival Award for "Inspiring Service to Jazz Education" - 1995

  • Featured guest, performing with Jazz Impact and The Ohio Jazz Orchestra For Youth at Tri-C Jazz Festival - "Young Talent Spotlight with Excellence in Music" - 1995

  • Guest clinician and conductor of Honors Jazz Ensemble at Akron All-City May Festival

  • Was leader of and performed in a 16 piece orchestra hired for "The Jerry Vale Show" at The Mentor Performing Arts Center - 1997

  • Principal saxophonist on recording sessions at The Larry Smith Studios

  • Regular performances at The Willoughby School of Fine Arts

  • Regular performances with Northeast Ohio's top artists and National recording artists including:

    • Ernie Krivda's Fat Tuesday Big Band

    • Dr. Marshall Griffith

    • Cliff Habian
